Official 50th Anniversary this Sunday, September 18th, 2016

This Sunday we will continue our #50YearsOfFaith celebrations with the Music of Faith UCC from the past 50 years!  A HUGE thanks to our official musicians and our volunteer musicians in Faith’s worship band, Faith’s Choir, and others who have a passion for music.

There will then be a potluck after service to which all are invited.  Then at 1pm there will be an organ concert and sing along with organ music from Allen Hennig, Rev. Al Hennig’s son (Rev. Al Hennig will be with us also this Sunday), we hope you will stay around for this, it should be fun!  The concert and sing along should be about 30-45 minutes and we invite everyone to join in!

Just after the church service and before the potluck, everyone is invited to gather outside to sing a big happy birthday to Louie Heras’ nephew, Michael, who is turning 17 on September 20th.  He continues his journey towards defeating cancer (Osteosarcoma) and he’ll be spending his birthday in the hospital for his continuing chemo treatments.  Louie is putting together a video for his birthday and would like to include everyone from Faith UCC singing Happy Birthday, sending him blessings, saying prayers or words of encouragement and things like that along with a balloon release for the children all in honor and support of Michael. Some balloons have gold ribbon for Childhood Cancer Awareness and the others have a yellow ribbon which represents Osteosarcoma/Bone Cancer.  We hope that you will join in for this special show of support during this Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.  Please group together just after church service and we’ll record this to include in the video for Michael’s birthday!

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time to honor and remember children and families affected by these rare diseases, and help rally support to give kids with cancer better outcomes by supporting our groundbreaking research.

During the month of September:

  • 25,000 families around the world will get the horrible news that their child or teen has cancer.
  • 6,667 families will experience the loss of a child.

More children are being diagnosed with cancer today than ever before. Let’s change that.

Hot Dog and Hamburger Picnic July 17th

Hot Dog and Hamburger Picnic planned

for July’s 50th Anniversary Event July 17th

Please plan to attend Faith’s hot dog and hamburger picnic this Sunday!

Come to church ready to party and celebrate our mission work!

Let’s eat, celebrate, work, and have some fun… (details below)

Our 50th anniversary celebration event for July will be a hamburger and hot dog lunch – followed by homemade ice cream – after church on July 17.  We will also have watermelon and hope we have enough brave souls to compete in a watermelon  seed spitting contest!!  The focus for the month’s event is “Mission,” and the picnic lunch will take place in conjunction with Faith’s adult literacy program—LEAP.  Also during our time together we will be preparing packets of items for use at the Karnes City Detention Center, where Rev. Dr. Helen Boursier and Rev. Sabrina Jennings work with the mothers and children incarcerated there.

To get into the picnic spirit, everyone is invited to come to church wearing “picnic” attitre – ready to celebrate during worship and party afterward! During worship, different mission projects Faith and its members are involved with will be recognized. (Speakers will include representatives from SOS Food Bank, Family Promise, Edenhill Communities, and LEAP).  Please plan on attending the picnic after church on the 17th of July in the area adjacent to Baese Hall. If it is too warm to eat outside, we will set up tables in Baese for eating. So, OK, we’ve decided it’s going to be too hot to eat outside, so we are setting up indoors on Saturday at 1 p.m. if you’d like to lend a hand. . .

If you haven’t signed up to attend or to bring anything to the potluck, don’t worry. . . There will be enough food for everyone. But, if you feel strongly about wanting to bring something, we could use a few more chopped onions, sliced tomatoes, and shredded lettuce, as well as sliced cheese for the burgers, potato salad or chips, and the like. Be sure to bring something you wouldn’t mind taking home in case our “cups” overflow and there are leftovers.

Anyone who plays an instrument  is invited to bring it to the picnic for an after-lunch jam session, along with singing! Let’s have some summertime fun while celebrating Faith’s 50th year!

Looking forward to seeing you Sunday!

Pastor Janet
